Types of Baths

Standard straight bath

Rectangular bath, typically 1700mm x 700mm. Fits most bathrooms. Acrylic or steel. The most common replacement we do - straightforward swap if the new bath matches the old footprint.

P-shaped or L-shaped shower bath

Wider at one end to give you shower space. Needs a screen and usually a deck-mounted or wall-mounted mixer. Popular in family bathrooms where you want both a bath and a proper shower.

Freestanding bath

Sits away from the wall on feet or a plinth. Needs floor-standing or wall-mounted taps with pipework routed through the floor. Heavier than a standard bath - we check the floor can take the weight before fitting.

Corner bath

Triangular bath that fits into a corner. Takes up more floor space than a straight bath but gives you more room to soak. Needs solid support underneath and usually a custom panel.

How We Install Baths

1

Remove the old bath

We turn off the water, disconnect the taps and waste, and remove the old bath. We check the floor and wall condition underneath - any rot or damage gets flagged before we go further.

2

Prepare the space

We level the floor if needed, position the new bath, and check the waste outlet lines up. Freestanding baths need pipework routing through the floor. Shower baths need the wall waterproofed.

3

Fit the bath and connect plumbing

We set the bath on adjustable legs, level it, and secure it. Then we fit the taps, connect hot and cold supplies, fit the waste trap, and connect the overflow. Everything gets sealed.

4

Seal, panel, and test

We seal around the bath edge with silicone, fit the bath panel, fill the bath fully, and check every joint for leaks. We don't leave until it's watertight.

Bath Installation Considerations

Weight and floor support

A full bath weighs 250-350kg with water and a person in it. Older properties may need the floor joists checked or reinforced, especially for cast iron or stone baths.

Tap and waste positioning

If you are changing from a bath with taps at one end to taps in the middle, or moving the waste position, we need to reroute the pipework. This adds time but we price it upfront.

Waterproofing

Any bath against a wall needs proper waterproofing behind the tiles. We use tanking membrane or aqua board to stop moisture getting into the wall structure.

Frequently Asked Questions About Plumbing in Eastbourne

How much does bath installation cost in Eastbourne?
Bath installation in Eastbourne typically costs between £250 and £600 for labour depending on whether it is a like-for-like swap or a new position requiring pipework changes.
How long does bath installation take?
A standard bath replacement takes 1 to 2 days including removal of the old bath, plumbing, and sealing.
Can you move a bath to a different position?
Yes, but this adds cost as the waste pipe and supply pipes need rerouting. Keeping the bath in the same position is always the most economical option.
